Pumpkin is safe for Shih Tzus when prepared correctly and offered in appropriate amounts. Plain pumpkin is excellent for digestion for Shih Tzus. As with any treat, moderation is key — even safe foods can cause digestive upset if given too frequently or in large quantities.
High in fiber helps with both diarrhea and constipation. Treats should never make up more than 10% of your Shih Tzu's total daily calorie intake — the remaining 90% should come from a complete, balanced pet food.
⚠️ Preparation note: Always remove Spiced pumpkin products before offering Pumpkin to your Shih Tzu. These parts can be harmful even when the rest of the food is safe.
